[:en]Last week we invited you to take part in our festive Holiday Quiz, with questions put to you by members of the Global Academy Jobs team. We hope there were some entries that got you thinking…without further ado, here are the correct answers:

A: South Africa

2. Q: Name the island chain (archipelago) that stretches from Alaska in the US across the Bering Straight to Russia?
A: The Aleutian Islands

3. Q: In which country do almost all surnames end in ‘son’ or ‘dóttir’?
A: Iceland

4. Q: What is the name of the first printed book in the English Language?
A: The Recuyell of the Historyes of Troye, printed by William Caxton in 1473

5. Q: What is the oldest university still in existence?
A: The University of Karueein, founded in 859 AD in Fez, Morocco

6. Q: In Japan, what do people commonly eat for Christmas dinner, as the result of a successful marketing campaign in 1970?
     A: KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken – the marketing slogan was ‘Kentucky for Christmas’!)

7. Q: Name the oldest state in the the US. 
     A: Delaware (December 7, 1787)

8. Q: What is the national animal of Scotland? 
     A: The Unicorn (we know, right!)

9. Q: Name all 7 African countries beginning with the letter ‘C’.
     A: Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo-Brazzaville & Congo-Kinshasa (Cote d’Ivoire is officially Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, so counts as ‘R’, sorry)

10. Q: What is the origin of the country name ‘Australia’?
       A: ‘Australia’ is derived from the Latin terra australis incognita, meaning ‘unknown southern land’
