6th European Symposium on Aerobiology 18th -22nd July 2016 Lyon, France

The 6th ESA will be held at the University of Lyon, in France’s Rhône-Alpes region. Aerobiology, which is the study of biological particles passively transported in the atmosphere, explores the interaction between the biosphere and the atmosphere. There is particular focus on the influence of climate change and associated impacts on human health (allergy day). The symposium also examines the noxious invasive alien species ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) with a satellite symposium sponsored by the International ragweed Society and the European Commission COST Action FA1203 “SMARTER”.

In her “Guide to Lyon” Mary Anne Evans describes Lyon as the second biggest city in France and has been a major centre since the Romans settled here. The city sits at the confluence of the mighty Rhône and Saône rivers, and is a crossroads for France and Europe. Highlights include the birth of cinema (Lumière Museum), secret passageways in the city (Traboules), silk weavers quarter (La Croix-Rousse), Gallo-Roman sites including the Roman amphitheatre in Fourvière, wall paintings through the city, and the reputation of France’s gastronomic heart with restaurants for every taste.

Getting to Lyon
Lyon by Air
Lyon’s airport, Aéroport de Lyon Saint Exupéry is 24 km (15 miles) from Lyon. There are regular flights from major French cities, Paris and UK destinations. If you’re coming from the U.S.A. you will have to change in Paris, Nice or Amsterdam.
Lyon by Train
There are regular TGV trains from Gare de Lyon in Paris, taking from 1hr 57 mins.
Lyon by Car
If you come by car, park in one of the many car parks and use the eco-friendly tram system and frequent buses to get around.
